Roots in the area

Fishing has always been prominent in the Venice area. Already back in 1500 the fishery products from the lagoon area were famed not only in the region but also throughout the vast plain of what is now north-east Italy.

Popular tradition has it that Venetian boats sailed as far as Istria (Croatia) to catch the most prized fish, which were served on the tables of the nobles and merchants of the Serenissima Republic.

This link to the sea, inherent in the lagoon's people, is what prompted the company's founder, Armando Zane, to devote all his efforts to fishing starting in 1925.

Progress and innovation

These are the two terms that best sum up the company’s development immediately after the Second World War.
Armando Zane understood before his peers of the times the potential of the wholesale market, and made big changes both in terms of the products he sold, and in their distribution.

Thus, immediately after the Second World War, the company specialized in importing shellfish from Northern Europe that was hitherto unknown on the local market: salmon, scampi and other varieties.
At the same time, it enacted a process of distribution around the area that was wholly innovative: the products were delivered around Italy within twelve hours from the order, using vehicles equipped with refrigeration units.
It was this dynamism that led Ittiesport to grow from being a small local business into one of the best-known fish traders in the Venice area.

Quality (not quantity) our watchword

This is the simple principle on which we base the work of the company, which is now managed by Armando’s son Roberto.

The selection of suppliers, the care taken over processing the products, and the constant research into the best preservation techniques, all add up to ensuring a consistent excellence of product quality.

To this we add the attention to our customers, both wholesale purchasers end consumers.

Projecting tradition into the future

Our plant facility is in mainland Venice (Marghera) and is divided into two separate units, of which one is dedicated to the product processing and offices, and the other to product preservation. The operational headquarters is instead the original seat in the general market on Tronchetto island, in Venice itself.

The amount of goods treated exceeds 500 tonnes annually between frozen and fresh. The growth in sales in the last 10 years has been 50%, with an increase mainly in products processed directly by our company.

Such growth has gone hand in hand with sizeable investments in more modern machinery and technologically innovative freezing systems. Ittiesport collaborates daily with both regional retailers and large-scale retailers, guaranteeing a qualified service that takes care of its customers' requirements.

Corporate certification

As a further guarantee to our consumers, we have produced our own internal “Quality Manual” which indicates the necessary quality- and safety parameters that allow our products to be sold.
These criteria have been established by the company owners in co-operation with a laboratory specialized in veterinary science and food safety.
The task of this body is also to act as guarantor that these standards be respected.
From the very outset the company has devoted utmost attention to the end consumers. Indeed, in addition to the certifications required by current food legislation, we have adopted an extra internal code.

A new challenge: growing the consumers who know about our quality product

After gaining appreciation on the regional market through our experience, quality, range and price-competitiveness, today we want to reach out to new trading partners.
With a broad and diversified product range, we meet the needs of large-scale distribution, HORECA (HOtel-REstaurant-CAfé), public catering (canteens, rest homes etc.) and buyer groups.
By exploiting a logistics network dedicated expressly to fishing products, we can supply customers throughout Italy.
